Stormy Australia is a unique business that was founded by Helen Moore in 1993, with the compelling motive of saving lives at sea.

Following the near death of a family friend on the West Coast of Tasmania, Australia, Stormy was founded with one very clear goal – to save lives. We have designed lifejackets for everyone on the water. 18 years of award winning research, innovation and refinement of performance inflatable clothing that’s respected, trusted and above all, WORN NOT STOWED.

The Company has grown and developed to provide good quality, diverse and dependable PFD’s (lifejackets) with wide ranging applications.

Stormy manufactures and distribute a unique range of sea safety, inflatable clothing (Personal Flotation Devices) consisting of a rugged windproof outer shell with an integrated inflation system.

The lifejacket or PFD, can be inflated either Automatically (in an overboard emergency where the jacket inflates within 5 seconds after immersion) or Manually (in a “Pull down to inflate” option). There is also an oral tube back up for partially inflating or topping up as required.

Fire Retardant Inflatable Life jackets: We have more recently expanded the range to include P.F.D’s and Thermal Jackets for the gas and oil industry. These products are generally custom designed but typically, they are manufactured with Fire Retardant/Anti-static outer shells, Meida Thermal insulation and have an integrated, high performance inflation system.

Sailing Inflatables: We have lifejackets engineered for sailing with an ISO approved harness, Lifejacket light and Spray hood options.

We constantly strive to supply lifejackets that will accommodate all manner of sporting, recreational and professional, on water activities, and in doing so we neither become stagnant nor complacent.

Stormy has currently developed a 150 Newton range of lifejackets that are made to an international standard and meet AS4758. They are more Buoyant than the existing, widely used PFD1, which were 100Newtons, and meant for calm waters. We are very proud to offer these jackets in the market place because they are the same comfortable, well made, high quality product that have sustained the growth of Stormy over the past 18 years and we are quietly confident that they will be well received.
